Gocheok IPARK

Project Information
Gocheok I-Park is a massive residential and commercial complex with 45 stories above ground and 410,000㎡ area, located at the interface between Gyeongin-ro and Nambu Ring Road, and it was planned as a landmark building in the southwestern part of Seoul. Previously used as a prison and detention center, it had been a factor of community disconnection and aging until the relocation of the southern correctional facility to Cheonwang-dong in 2011. Then, it required space to reverse the stagnant atmosphere and restore it to a regional communal center. As the featured surroundings, Costco and I-Park Mall were located as regional commercial facilities on nearby sites, and parks and administrative complexes were linked to each other by public walkways without interference in circulation. Inside the low-rise shopping mall, there is another pedestrian path with the concept of a double-sided street, and the podium is planned to be formed behind the entrance road so that pedestrians are not overwhelmed by the volume of the building. It might be a centerpiece to create a new identity in Gocheok-dong as a complex facility where local community members share, experience, and harmonize in various programs.
